The Mahri family blends Middle Eastern cultural roots with organized crime in a way that brings rich, immersive duality to RP. On the surface, they run a cozy Palestinian café — a place where locals gather to eat musakhan, sip mint tea, and hear the news. Behind closed doors, however, the café is a cover for a narcotics trafficking operation, primarily centered on cocaine imports.

You can expect RP involving front-business management, cultural community events, discreet drug trades, and tension between a peaceful image and violent enforcement. Loyalty, tradition, and reputation drive everything they do.

Bonus ideas include open mic nights used to pass secret messages, coded menus for drug orders, and halal food deliveries doubling as drop-offs.

Provide examples or event ideas to promote activity within your faction and keep people interested:

Weekly café nights with realistic food service RP, while the backroom handles drop-offs and laundering

A Palestinian-style street festival with food, music, and subtle recruitment

Shipment drop RP with potential ambushes or police involvement

Interrogation scenes involving captured rivals

Family trials where new members prove their loyalty through assigned missions

The Mahri family’s roots run deep in the soil of Palestine a proud bloodline of merchants, tradesmen, and spiritual men. In 1979, after years of unrest and lost land back home, the family made the difficult decision to immigrate to the United States, bringing with them nothing but their name, culture, and drive to survive.

They settled quietly in a struggling East Coast neighborhood, opening a small shop and working long hours doing whatever they could to stay afloat — from janitorial work to loading docks. But they quickly learned that the American dream wasn’t made for men like them. They were pushed around, extorted by local gangs, and overlooked by everyone else.

By the mid-1980s, the Mahri family had built a modest Palestinian café, a quiet place for their own to gather and eat. But behind the warmth of the café walls, the family had started to change. Tired of being preyed upon, they began to fight back — first by refusing to pay protection money, then by retaliating when threatened. What started as self-defense turned into opportunity.

With their homeland connections, they began running small smuggling operations, first in cigarettes and stolen goods, then stepping into the more profitable world of cocaine trafficking. Not out of greed — but out of necessity. They learned from the streets around them, played the long game, and built trust in silence.

Now in 1989, the Mahri name means more than just food and family. It means respect — and consequence. They still serve tea to the neighborhood kids, still pray five times a day… but now, they do so with soldiers watching the door.

They didn’t come to America to become criminals. America made them criminals.

Their motto? "We don't forgive. We preserve."

224 word count for your back story, while yes the question does say 250+ minimum, read some of the other accepted applications to understand what the expectations are. you dont need to do 500 or 250 or 800 words, but a large majority of the other apps are more in depth about their backstories.

This backstory doesn't really put much thought into what the faction really is. Kinda just feels like you put it together just to get it done. 

 

A humble group of people regardless of ethnicity don't just move to America become bullied and decide fuck it let's smuggle drugs. There is a progressive history that leads to becoming an organized crime family. Some are bullied by local mobs and and try their hardest to survive the exploitation and extortion, others will work with them and eventually break off and do their own organized crime.

 

Your backstory basically says "we moved, had a hard time, decided you know what let's smuggle drugs." There's no real rhyme or reason to why just that they figured hey were having a tough time living let's do it. Humble people don't make that jump like that.

With connections back home and a knack for moving quietly, they started importing cocaine, using the café as a front."

again humble people dont just get up and decide to sell drugs, in fact it goes against what they said in the first paragraph. They left their home country to escape instability and war. Why they hell would a humble family trying to leave that oppressing lifestyle move to America and decide to get involved in organized crime? It doesnt make sense.
