New Player Guide The main focus of Mafia RP is to discover and enjoy a story based on the character you’ve created. The freedom is yours to become either criminal, cop, lawyer, businessman or whatever else your heart desires. The game mode is all about social interaction, forming in character connections and bonds with other players as you enforce, evade or argue the law. The main focus of this short guide is to get you started on the server as well as have a basic understanding of how the game mode functions. The rest you can figure out for yourself in character. LTAP/LTARP: Leave to avoid punishment/roleplay. Disconnecting in a fit of rage when the roleplay doesn’t go your way. Minge/NITRP: A Minge is simply someone who is not there to roleplay or play properly and only breaks the rules. PO: Past Offense, used to describe when someone keeps breaking the same rule. Character Creation / Functions [PKs] The way you should look at creating your character is to imagine an individual or type of individual you’d like to roleplay as, selecting their First name and Last name, ethnicity, age and other physical attributes. All these factors combine and lend themselves to greater roleplay possibilities as you begin the story arc of that particular character. Endurance: Affects how long you can run. Stamina: Affects how fast you can run. Strength: Affects the strength and power of your punches. PK - (Permanent Kill) A PK refers to when the character is dead or given a life sentence. It will appear as ‘killed’ in the character selection screen. This indicates that the character can no longer be used. Their story came to an end through a natural progression of roleplay and we hope you enjoyed that experience. You can simply delete them and make new characters and start new storylines! (When a Character is deleted it is permanent) To understand what can get a character PK’ed we recommend you read our rule page. If you were PK’ed and feel it was unjust then you may appeal it on our forums under the section ‘Character Appeals’ Making Money: Basic | Getting Started The main motivation of most will be the grab for cash, power and status. Making money through any means necessary, whether a legal job, government position, theft, drug cultivating or gun trafficking, the choice is yours. Each method and practice comes with its own risks and rewards. To get started on this we recommend you speak with a few key NPCs at Town Hall. They’ll provide you with useful directions and other information on where to get some basic jobs for some starter cash, alternatively you can also roam the streets and seek to be employed or informed by other players. The first NPC being Sean Johnson, he will provide you directions to key landmarks, job sites and even some shady alleys. Alternatively you can access the NAVIGATOR in your inventory menu. Hit F1, go to the inventory tab, then click the top item on your right hand utility side. Then hit the either arrows to choose places, hit the green button to mark waypoints to them on your screen or the red button to close the navigator. Once at the job sites you’ll want to speak with the Job NPC and begin working on the provided tasks to earn cash each time. Either as a Taxi man, a Delivery Driver or City worker. (Right click with keys to unlock your vehicle for delivery/taxi) Hit e on boxes for city workers As previously mentioned there are also other methods. You can try fishing by purchasing a fishing rod and heading to the pier, or maybe you found your way to the Blackmarket or Drug Dealer NPC where you will be prompted with various illegal items for sale. Drug Dealer The drug dealer is the lower tier cultivator, dealing mostly in marijuana. From him you can purchase some potted plants and special water jugs in order to cultivate your own supply. Find a secure location, an abandoned building or slum to inhabit and begin watering and growing until 80-100%. You may then collect the finished product and sell it right back! Blackmarket At the Blackmarket NPC the lockpick and restraints are good tools for both burglary and muggings, while the Drug Processor is the main tool of drug cultivation. The Drug Processor takes the higher tier bricks of narcotics only available to established criminal Factions, you can obtain these by doing drug deals with players who are members of these elite criminal organisations or attempt to join them yourself and become a member of their ranks. This aspect of the gamemode stems to encourage and reward social based play, interacting and roleplaying with other players will always yield higher profits. Once a drug is cultivated there are various NPC buyers placed around the map for each specific narcotic. There are truly infinite ways to make money, running your own hustle or being creative can yield not only profit but also a fun time. Basic Social Interaction & Communication As mentioned many times before, this gamemode is very social, the gameplay actively encourages you to take player jobs, talk to people, make connections, friends, associates and deals to rise through the ranks and increase both your profit and power. The best way to start with that is to get some basic cash going, newcomers to the city are often brushed aside or ignored. You need to start getting a reputation going, getting some cash and heading to the clothing store to get some drip going is a great way to increase the likelihood of people talking to you. Generally it’s accepted and recommended that you head to some sort of business, a restaurant, café, apartment complex, and see if they’re hiring, either waiters, cooks or security usually. Getting a basic job and interacting with the members of these gangs will increase your reputation with them and make them trust you more, as well as making some cash on the side. The better you are at working your job the more likely they are to invite you into closer circles and include you in the more lucrative side of things… It’s recommended you do not use 3rd party VOIP programs like skype/discord to communicate while in game. Use in-game voice comms instead to avoid instances of metagame. We have both an in-game phone and radio to compensate for this. Server Map New York: Legal Roleplay Not everyone wants to be a criminal, there are a plethora of legal options for you to take. You can become a lawyer or a judge, get your career started in politics and government or even join the Police Force. The avenues for legal roleplay are much larger and more immersive than most other servers. For a basic law rp intro I recommend you read this thread: If you want to join the police force you should make your way over to the Police Station in game and/or join the appropriate Police discord. NYPD (New York): https://discord.gg/4QB9a4gnzb Controls / Commands / Misc. F1 - Opens your menu screen, allowing access to your character and inventory tab at the top. F3 - Allows you to give out your identity to people around you F4 -Thirdperson view. To use voice chat use your Microphone key. (Default is X) To use text chat use the chat keys (Y or U) Basic chat commands. /me - use this to represent a physical roleplay action in game. /w - Whispers. Reduces chat range /y - Yelling, increases chat range /ooc or // - Allows you to chat in Global out of Character chat. [For casual unrelated chat with all players] /looc - Local out of character chat. Chats with the people around you about things you can’t say in roleplay. @ - This is used to contact an admin You can also interact with players by looking at them and opening your context menu (Default button is C) The context menu also works on cars and when inside of cars. Requesting to search them asks them if they consent to a search. (Useful for security jobs) Giving money will give them money. Tying a player will attempt to restrain them if you have restraints Allowing recognition allows you to give them your identity. Holding E or your interact button will also give you the option to give your identity. You can equip items from the inventory screen. A: Q: How can I improve my FPS and/or load times? A: If you have an SSD we highly recommend you put Garry's mod on the SSD, it significantly improves load times. Only Factions have the ability to permanently own a property. As a non affiliated person you may either rent rooms at buildings owned by existing factions or F2 buy the publicly available spaces at Ghetro or any unowned Townhouses, first come first serve, it will last you the duration of your session. Otherwise you may squat on abandoned properties with the risk of being pushed out by Police. How do I spawn props? To spawn props you must have the PET flags. How do I make a bank account? How do I become a cop? Visit the Police Department and interact with the desk Sergeant for more information. How do I get staff to help me? Type @ Followed by your message, try to be descriptive when creating a ticket. 'Help I was RDMed' is much better than 'Admin to me' ! How do I get storage locker? Contact staff using @ and request one to be placed. Be mindful of how many lockers or crates are already placed in that room. Generally there should not be more than five in one room. How do I use / get TVs? To view what's playing on a TV simply walk up to it and hit E. Once you are finished watching hit E on it again. PK - Permanently Killed, also known as a Character Ban. This is a term used when your character has been killed off permanently in roleplay, no respawning. This usually happens as a consequence of an action within roleplay, below is a set of guidelines that explain what can constitute a PK. Different organizations have different rules on how they can PK someone, this is due to how it would be conducted realistically. Is 'x' allowed? Can I do 'x'? I did not know I couldn't do 'x' ! If it is not specified in the rules ask a staff member if it's permitted. People utilize a multitude of recording softwares to capture gameplay but the most used one is: https://medal.tv/ What if I disconnect mid roleplay/sit? If you disconnect during a roleplay situation (like an arrest) or an admin sit you have about 10 minutes to reconnect before a ban can be issued for LTAP/LTARP. You should attempt to reconnect immediately and if possible message the person/admin you were in the situation with and inform them you will be returning within the allotted 10 minutes. When can I leave/switch char during an arrest? If you sign a plea deal, once you are sentenced via the NPC and are serving your sentence you may disconnect or switch chars. If you are contesting the charges the police will organize with you and your lawyer to move you into the penitentiary faction and get your information to add you to a judge ticket to schedule a court date. Once you have given your info and are moved into the penitently faction you may switch character / disconnect. You may need to ask the cops / admins to untie you so you can switch characters. How do I get a gun license? Visit the Government discord for more information. https://discord.gg/2m8N7hqsQg Anyway to break into lockers and crates? To break into a locked locker you must call an admin to assist you with the roleplay. The following criteria must be met. The faction that owns the building you are in / the lockers you are trying to open must be online and active (at least 5 players on). You must then perform the /me and utilize /roll in order to beat the admin TWICE. If you fail one of the two rolls you fail to open the locker. Repeat this for every locker you encounter. Just because you are multiple people in a group attempting to raid these lockers does not mean you get multiple attempts. Anyway to break out of handcuffs? To break out of handcuffs another person will have to use a lockpick item on you. I was killed unfairly, can I get compensation? Compensation is only required when the items you lost is due to a server crash/bug. In situations where you are RDM'ed or some other voiding circumstance occurs you are not entitled to compensation, having the item equipped is an inherent risk. That being said it is possible for the staff member handling your ticket to issue you compensation if they feel it, so being respectful goes a long way. How do I change my name/nickname? To change your nickname simply make a ticket with staff @ and ask them to change your nickname. If you want to fully change your character's legal name you must create a name change ticket in the court discord. https://discord.gg/4fecwReaWA No admins are taking tickets? If there are no staff on or the staff on are all AFK you can make a player report on the forums to report a rulebreaker: https://divergenet.works/forum/34-player-reports/ Do not make support tickets over the discord for things that are meant to be handled in-game, such as RDM tickets or PK requests. How do I report a staff member? You can report a staff member here: https://divergenet.works/forum/37-staff-reports/ Staff reports are considered anonymous, only you will be able to see your report as well as Super Administrators and above, who are the ones who will process the report. How do I get a whitelist for custom clothes or cars? Any custom clothing or custom cars you see is something a player had made and owns. If you want to donate to have your own custom item made or custom car added make a donation ticket in the main discord. In order to be added to a whitelist for an existing car/item you must get permission from the original owner and then create a donation ticket to pay the Whitelist fee. Is jumping to death a pk? No, jumping off tall buildings is not a PK, UNLESS you requested one or you did it to escape an RP situation and died. Ex: You are being arrested for a serious crime and commit suicide to avoid arrest, this would be a pk. How do I get my free cigarette? You can get the free permanent cigarette by joining the steam group (https://steamcommunity.com/groups/dv-n). Make sure your profile is set to public and then reload your character. You can toggle the cigarette on and off using the command /togglecig My PET flags are getting in the way You can toggle them equipped with /togglepet How do I do those character animations? Pull out your keys and type /anim followed by the animation number. ex: /anim 1 How do I do start a gang/faction? You need to apply to start an official faction, https://divergenet.works/forum/18-factions-applications/ However we highly recommend that you have a good understanding of the gamemode, the rules and lots of playtime. Being a faction leader is no easy task and we expect more from our faction leaders, people who expected to be an active member of the community and push roleplay and events with their factions to new heights. Can I be a high ranking criminal and cop? You may not hold a significant criminal rank and government rank at once, High command for a criminal faction may not be high command in government. How do I check my total playtime? Type !time in-game. Why is my playtime resetting? If your play time resets every time you disconnect it is because you have a special character in your steam name. Change your steam name to remove the special characters / symbols and your playtime will save. I can't find the server? How can I favourite the server? Garry's mod sometimes messes up the category listing in the regular multiplayer menu. We recommend you use the legacy browser and favourite the server by IP address. Step 1: Under the multiplayer menu open the 'Legacy Browser' and go to the 'Favorites' tab. Step 2: Once you have selected the 'Favourites' Tab at the top click on 'Add a server' at the bottom right. Step 3: Paste the server IP 45.62.160.54:27015 into the field and hit 'Add this address to favourites'. Step 4: The server will now appear under your favorites in the legacy browser. When the server is full you can select 'Auto-retry' to queue for the next open player slot.

What is the Pager system? The pager system or simply 'pager' is an in server messaging function, that allows you to send in character messages to other players. The system functions similar to emails allowing you to send, receive, store and delete messages as you please, as well as having a contacts list you can manage. The Pager is unique to each of your characters and you can link it to your Discord Account to receive notifications whenever you get a message. How to Access your Pager You can access the system via your inventory on the right side! Connecting to Discord In order to receive message notifications on discord go to the Pager options. From there you can left-click to copy the code it provides. Then head over to our discord ( discord.gg/diverge ) and message the code to the Diverge Bot. Diverge#4768 Once connected you will begin receiving notifications! Adding and Saving Contacts In order to add and save contacts go to the 'Contacts' button on the Pager. From here you can add, edit and delete your contacts. The little minus button next to the contact is 'delete' and the pencil and paper is 'edit' To Add a new Contact click 'New Contact' Add whatever contact name you'd like and where it says Contact ID you must input their character ID. In order to get someone's character ID you can type /copyid while looking at them or have them type /myid and give you the number they receive. Sending and Receiving messages You will be able to view all your received messages the moment you open the pager as they will display in your INBOX. In order to send messages click the 'Send Message' button in the pager. In the subject line you write the title of the message and the body details the contents of the message. For the Recipient line you can either select a pre-existing contact or simply enter the character ID of the intended recipient. You may also send the same message to multiple recipients at once, simply separate the character ID's with a comma in the recipient line. EX: 5, 16, 7845, 11146 Once completed hit 'Send' Managing messages When you receive a message it will appear in your inbox, you can simply click it to view it. You can flip through your 3 tabs to view inbox, sent and trash. Inside the message you can copy the contents of it to paste elsewhere, you can trash it or reply to the sender, which automatically fills out all the recipient information and reads as re: subject line. You can also view all messages you have sent in the Sent box. You can view your sent messages by clicking the subject line as well and use the follow up button to send another message to the same person. You can also remove messages from your inbox by sending them to the trash, where they will remain until you either restore them to the inbox or delete the permanently (PERMA DELETED messages CANNOT be recovered)

On Diverge, the real-life court system is emulated by the in-game equivalent - however, there are important differences out of concern for accessibility and simplicity for players. Being arrested In playing on the server, you will inevitably run into Law Enforcement Officers. If you commit a crime, you may also be arrested by them. Although maliciously motivated arrests happen, they violate server rules unless approved by the server administration - if you believe an instance of corruption is going on, you are encouraged to fight it through the legal system. You have a number of avenues available, such as civil lawsuits, pretrial motions, and internal affairs complaints. It is recommended that you hire a Bar-certified attorney to guide you through this process. They are familiar with the legal system and have likely encountered situations similar to yours. In the event that you are arrested, you will either be sent through the court system or offered a plea bargain. This means that the police will offer downgraded charges, or will drop some charges, in exchange for your guilty plea. Unlike the real world, the police can sentence you themselves for crimes you have pled guilty (or no contest) to. In most cases, it is recommended you do this - especially if it’s not a felony. Trials can be long and costly, and plea bargains offer a quicker, cheaper resolution. Should you believe coercion or corruption was involved, you should contact an attorney. Should you go through the court system, a criminal complaint will be drafted. This is how the State/District Attorney's Office (prosecutors) and Police initiate a case. This complaint will hold a list of charges and allegations accompanying them. Following the submission of this complaint to the courts, you will be scheduled for an arraignment. In this hearing, you will be read your charges, probable cause will be determined for them, bail will be set, and you will be told your rights. As provisioned by the constitutions of the United States and New York, as well as various statutes passed on both servers, you are entitled to due process and all the rights that ensue. You will be informed of them during the first appearance or directly afterwards, and judges will provide explanations of the court process. [font=Arial]After the conclusion of the arraignment, a date for trial will be set. Before this date, pretrial proceedings are conducted over the discord for the relevant court system; this allows an easy record of what happens and allows a supervised environment for discovery (the exchange of evidence for both parties) to occur. Civil Lawsuits If you believe a civil wrong was committed against you, you have the ability to file a civil complaint with the courts. This is a document which includes a number of details about the events that transpired, as well as a ‘prayer for relief’ - what you believe you are owed. As the creation of a complaint can be complicated, it is, once again, recommended that you hire a Bar-certified attorney. Police Because Assistant State Attorneys are not always available, you may have to draft your own criminal complaints. Instruction on how to do this is already provided by the Police Department, but it must still be stressed that the affidavit should be of the highest possible quality. You are providing an account of the facts to support the charges, and charges may be dropped should the affidavit be insufficient. The American Bar Association (ABA) ABA - The ‘American Bar Association’. From here, rules of legal practice are dictated, and new attorneys are certified. If you wish to become one, the exam is available on the discord for the Unified Court System. The discord also has forms for reporting attorneys and enquiring about both the court system and the Bar. Being an attorney New York City could always use more attorneys - after you complete your Bar exam, you will be contacted with the result and feedback on your answers. Once you are certified, you are free to engage in private practice. The police will frequently request the presence of attorneys for defendants that do not possess them, and you will have no shortage of work. You could also go the public route, and ask to become a public defender or assistant state attorney. Obviously, in these jobs, you will be issued a public salary and not a per-case fee. You will also be forbidden from private practice as long as you are employed by the state. Naturally, there will be things you don’t know. There are, however, many public resources you can look at to advance your knowledge. Both court systems have published handbooks, procedural rules, and links to real world resources that come up in trials on the server. As America is an English Common Law system, case law reigns supreme; simple google searches will often yield countless cases related to any one issue. The court system works largely off templates written by the members of the respective court; in these templates, substantial guidance is given on what to write, how to phrase things, etc. And, to reiterate, further guidance can be requested from the court. We understand that it is a GMod server, and will give advice accordingly. Additionally, you can take influence from real world court documents that you find online. If you believe there was a serious mishap in trial, there are two major paths you can take. You could attempt to get a new trial with a post-trial motion, or you could appeal the case. Guidance is available on doing this, and templates are available. Bank Accounts This will be a comprehensive guide on how bank accounts work. Account Creation Automated Teller Machines are placed throughout the map for quick, easy and public access to an individual's bank accounts. If you have no bank accounts you'll be greeted by an empty grid. To obtain new accounts go to the Banker at City Hall. First Account - $1,000 Second Account - $50,000 Third Account - $100,000 The Accounts will then appear once purchased. Bank Account Use Simply click onto the Account you wish to open You'll then be greeted with several options Deposit - Put Money into the Account Withdraw - Take Money out of the Account Transfer - Transfer Money from one account to another Item Bank - Open the account's Item Storage Manage Users - Add/remove people to their account and edit their permissions. View Logs - View the account logs of money and items entering and leaving the account. Rename Account - Sets the account's name. Enter a value to take out or put in money. (You must have the available amount in the account / on your person for it to function) The account number is the ID To transfer money to another bank account you need to acquire the bank ID and then enter the amount. Do not confuse these two fields. You can store any item in your bank account, simply click and drag it from your inventory. Donators get the larger bank accounts. Managing Accounts As an Account Owner you can add people to your account and grant them permissions to interact with it. You can allow or deny them to withdraw, deposit, transfer, use the item bank, manage the account or view logs Click the left column. Add them via Character ID To obtain a character ID simply type /copyid while looking at someone or have them type /myid And enter it You can then add or remove permissions once the user is added.
