Canadian-bacon
i mean totally in theory but it could be configured in a way where 1. Font is different, text colour is different, text is physically smaller and more lowkey 2. A character limit which cuts after x so its useful to see who has said what but still need to read it in chat. "Hey dude, so i was [...]" 3. Only have it activate when you're in range of x number of people. so if there is 2 or less people near you it would not need to activate, but 3 or more it would. 4. A Cooldown so it can't stack or spam over someone's head. But it's a huge change and leap that would impact the game visually. I don't imagine most people would want it. 1 1 Link to comment

I can link you a server and show you how theirs works but it would be advertising tldr commands dont pop up over your head so speaking in languages, radio, advertisements, etc wouldn't pop up also there is a character limit for what can go above your head. Also, it does not stack so you can't flood your overhead messages. 1 Link to comment

Omerta
I used to RP on Graal and this is how typed text shows on that game. I love the idea. It’s a big change but a positive one. Many scenarios nothing should show, obviously,( like ads/rumors and whispers) but otherwise… ace idea. (Edit: I specifically only mention Graal because it’s a 2D game and the text was rather “intrusive” in nature, as it obstructed the screen; yet it still worked very well. Seeing people’s text (and there was a cut off after a couple sentences) over their head was a gift. You could also change the font/size client-side. Plenty of 3D games I’ve RP’d on have this and it works perfectly fine. A preview shows up over the character’s head and you easily match it with the text box. It’s a no brainer.) Lessrecoil
+1 as someone who has a mic but types all the time, sometimes you can be completely ignored if someone isn't looking at chat in a group of people. 1 Link to comment
chingymingy
+1, especially when multiple people are sitting down during restaurant RP, makes it damn near impossible to figure out who's ordering what. Link to comment
